A driver was struck with weapon after he was followed in his car for almost two miles through Bearsted and Weavering, Maidstone, in the early hours.

A man was struck with a weapon after he was followed in his car for almost two miles.

The victim, who is in his 40s, suffered a fractured cheekbone and cuts to his face when he was attacked between 12.50am and 1.10am today.

The motorist was approaching Bearsted train station, in Ware Street, when he became aware another vehicle was travelling closely behind him and driving erratically.

He continued along Bearsted Road, into New Cut Road before stopping in Shepherds Gate Drive in Grove Green.

The other car, thought to be a black Peugeot, also stopped.

The victim got out of his car and was assaulted with an unknown object. He managed to get back into his vehicle and leave the scene before alerting Kent Police.

The offenders are both white men aged in their 20s.

South East Coast Ambulance Service attended and took the casualty to hospital.

Officers are appealing for anyone who saw the Peugeot, being driven suspiciously around the time of the assault, to call 101 with any information.
