Police seized around 80 cannabis plants from a house in Maidstone, after a policeman sniffed out the cultivation when he visited a neighbour.

PC Jamie Botting, from the neighbourhood policing team, was going to an appointment in Woodford Road, Maidstone, on Thursday, March 21, when he recognised the smell.

Having called at a couple of addresses, he located the source. A 46-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of cultivating cannabis.

PC Botting said: “Cannabis cultivations at residential premises often cause disruption to neighbourhoods, such as constant comings and goings at addresses, anti-social behaviour, and the smell that cannabis produces. Crimestoppers is currently running a campaign to encourage people to report suspicions around cannabis farms, and we would echo that; if you suspect that cannabis is being grown then contact us and we will investigate further.”

The arrested man has been released on bail until Thursday, May 17, pending further enquiries.
