A man has been seriously injured after a falling tree crushed him in a car last night.

The victim was trapped when the large tree plunged onto four vehicles in a Tonbridge car park at about 10pm.

Fire crews used a chainsaw to free the man in New Wharf Road, behind the Co-operative store.

An air ambulance crew was called along with paramedics from South East Coast Ambulance Service.

The man's condition was unknown this morning.

A picture of rescue crews at the scene was posted on Facebook group The Only Way is Tonbridge.

Nick Meekham posted on the page: "The cause was apparently the tree was rotted from the inside out and gave way.

"A huge shout out to the emergency team - all of them came very quickly."

And Helen Swan said: "Poor man, wishing him a speedy recovery x"

Kent Fire and Rescue Service said two crews were at the scene until around 10.50pm.
