Police find 120 cannabis plants at scene of a house fire in Longham Copse in Downswood, Maidstone

Police investigating a house fire in Downswood have seized 120 cannabis plants found at the property.

Forensics officers have been working at the home, in Longham Copse, where the blaze broke out shortly before 6.45pm yesterday.

Firefighters spent several hours battling the blaze, which started on the first floor of the two-storey property and had taken hold by the time the emergency services arrived.

Two fire engines were called and crews entered the house wearing breathing apparatus.

They also used thermal imaging technology to find the source of the blaze.

The fire was out by 9.20pm, and a ventilation fan was used the clear the smoke.

No injuries have been reported.

A Kent Police spokesman said enquiries were ongoing.
