Blue Bell Hill mansion belonging to former Gillingham FC player Daniel Spiller destroyed in suspected arson attack

A £1.2m mansion belonging to a former Gills player has been destroyed in a suspected arson attack.

The five-bed property, in Salisbury Road near Blue Bell Hill, went up in flames at 11pm on Saturday.

It belongs to footballer Daniel Spiller - most recently of Herne Bay FC - whose playing career also includes time with Gillingham, Luton and Millwall.

Three fire engines and a specialist water carrier were sent to the scene.

The house was well alight when crews arrived and the cause is currently being investigated.

Police were reportedly standing guard outside the home on Sunday, and the fire service issued a notice informing neighbours that they were using an unmanned aerial device in the area the same day.

A Kent Fire and Rescue Service spokesman said: "It would be inappropriate to comment further until the investigation is complete."
