Buttercups Goat Sanctuary host annual Goaty Gallop

Lovers of goats and running combined the two during the Buttercups Sanctuary’s annual Goaty Gallop Charity Fun Run.

The 5km sponsored circuit is an opportunity for the Goat Sanctuary to raise funds to help run the site in Wierton Road, Boughton Monchelsea.

This year’s event, held on Saturday at Maidstone’s Mote Park, was the third race for volunteers and is expected to raise around £2,000.

In 2015 the fun run helped raise money to buy a new tractor to help with haymaking while last year’s race helped fund new fencing.

The runner who raised the most money was rewarded with two bottles of wine while the race winner was given a bottle of bubbly.

Robert Hitch, from Buttercups Goat Sanctuary, said: “Over 30 people actually came and they are all raising money for the sanctuary.

“We have 140 goats at the sanctuary and we are raising money for fencing. We are open every day to the public from 11am to 4pm and people can buy bags of food and feed the goats.”
