Maidstone mum describes rescuing man with serious head injury lying in Rectory Lane, Barming

A mum has described the frightening moment a man was dramatically lifted from the middle of a road near Barming after collapsing with a serious head injury.

Susannah Adams was driving home from a puppy training class in Nettlestead with husband Barry and their 13-year-old daughter Ellen when a car flashed at them in Rectory Lane.

She explained: "We realised other cars had also stopped in front of us and then I saw someone lying in the middle of the road. Another lady and two young men were also there.

"He was looking up at the sky quite vacantly and there was lots of blood coming out of his head."

"I asked if someone had called an ambulance and the lady said she was on the phone to them. His eyes had rolled to the back of his head. I noticed that his hand was shaking."

To keep him talking the 40-year-old mother of two asked the stricken man, who is described as being aged 60, about the tremors. He managed to mumble it was a symptom of Parkinson's disease him talking, I asked if he was hurt and he said he had Parkinson's."

Mrs Adams who lives in The Tail Race, Tovil Green said the family had only driven that route home due to the Teston Bridge being shut. They were unfamiliar with the rural area and did not know why the man had collapsed.

Events then took a dramatic turn when he became unresponsive and they were unsure whether he was breathing or not.

"The two men lifted him to support his back and then I put him in the recovery position," she explained.

To their relief he began to breathe again and shortly after at around 8.20pm the emergency services arrived.

Mrs Adams said she became tearful after returning to her car because of the drama and was happy to have helped with the others.

An ambulance spokesman confirmed he was treated at the scene before being taken to Tunbridge Wells Hospital. He was released today at 11.44

Police have confirmed the incident is not being treated as suspicious and the reasons for why he was found in the road remain a mystery.
