Police appeal for witnesses to final moments of tragic Nathan Cackett

Police are hoping to unravel the final moments of a man found dead on the railway line near West Malling on Monday.

British Transport Police were called to the trackside near Ryarsh Lane foot crossing at around 3.30pm, amid claims someone had been hit by a train.

The body of 23-year-old Nathan Cackett was found at the scene.

But Nathan's silver Lexus was found crashed in bushes at Trottiscliffe just half an hour before he was hit.

Now police want to find out what happened in the vital minutes leading up to his death.

Sgt Martin Rolfe, the investigating officer, said: "Our thoughts are very much with Nathan’s family at this sad time.

"They understandably have a lot of questions and I am appealing for the help of anyone who may have seen him before he died."

He appealed for anyone who may have seen Nathan from 1pm onwards on Monday.

Police believe he was driving his car, with the registration number GF53 YMU, towards West Malling, but had the crash just outside Trottiscliffe.

Sgt Rolfe added: “I am particularly interested in speaking to a man who is believed to have seen Nathan walking along the road towards the Angel pub, shortly after he crashed his car.”

Police are investigating locally, and looking at CCTV from the area.

Nathan was wearing a black polo shirt with pink trim around the sleeves, and light grey jeans.
