A 51-year-old homeless man is facing jail after admitting a knife attack in which he inflicted a wound to the throat of a pensioner.

John Lowe had been accused of attempted murder but his guilty plea to wounding with intent was accepted by the prosecution.

He entered the plea when he appeared at Maidstone Crown Court by TV link with Elmley Prison, Sheppey, on Monday.

Paul Hayman, who is in his 70s, was treated at a London hospital after being attacked in Heath Road, Barming, at about 7.30pm on October 2 last year.

Judge David Griffith-Jones QC adjourned sentence until February 23 for a report to consider dangerousness.
