Firefighters rescue horses from blazing horsebox on M20

Two horses were rescued after the brakes on their horsebox caught fire on a motorway.

The animals were pulled out and then held safely on the hard shoulder of the coastbound carriageway of the M20 near Harrietsham this morning.

Two fire engines were called to the scene at 9.45am.

A spokesman for Kent Fire and Rescue Service said: “Fire crews worked with the Highways Agency to escort the box to the emergency access at Lenham.

“A second fire crew remained with the horses until a new horse box arrived to take the horses away.”
