Traffic chaos as trailer blocks motorway after lorry crash near Maidstone

Drivers on the M20 faced chaos this morning after a trailer fell off the back of a lorry and blocked an exit road.

Traffic was unable to exit the services at junction 8 near Maidstone after the truck hit a barrier and its trailer disconnected.

Darren Mansfield from Ashford was driving one of around 200 vehicles stuck at the services for around half an hour.

"The trailer dropped and blocked the road completely at the most critical part, so nobody could get in or out.

"It's lucky it was at a services and not on the motorway itself because it could have been catastrophic."

A police spokesman said: "Kent Police was called at 9.30am on 21 May to reports of debris on the coastbound carriageway of the M20. Officers are attending the scene."
