Police closed roads around Town Hill, West Malling, this morning as fire fighters battled a blazing heavy goods lorry with flames shooting some 20 feet high.

The incident happened near West Malling Garage but police said they had no reports of anyone being injured.

The fire began at 8.45am and was extinguished by 9.20am.

Two fire engines attended using hydrant jet hoses and breathing apparatus. It's not yet clear what the vehicle was carrying.

Local resident David Kemp, who witnessed the scene, told the KM: "How it didn't blow up I don't know. The black smoke was really intense and flames

were leaping some 20 feet up."

The burnt out vehicle is now awaiting a recovery truck to take it away.
