All lanes have now reopened after a serious crash between junctions 8 and 9 of the M20

Both carriageways were closed just after 4am for the air ambulance to land, but have now  reopened.

It's believed just one car - a BMW - was involved in the accident between the Maidstone and Ashford junctions.

There were four people in the car, which ended up on its roof.

A man, believed to be the driver, and a woman were both taken to hospital by ambulance with serious injuries. The air ambulance was called but not needed.

It follows a crash just before 7pm last night on the motorway, between junctions 5 and 7.

Crews released two women who were trapped using hydraulic rescue equipment. They were taken to hospital by ambulance.
