Maidstone hit by snowstorm

Maidstone has been hit hard by the Beast From the East this week with people waking up to find up to 15cm of snow under their feet.

Schools have been forced to close amid the constant flurries of snow across the town and traffic problems have ensured a number of people are working from home.

The A249 was shut in both directions following the heavy snowfall but traffic conditions have eased considerably.

Traffic in the centre of town is coping well with a significantly reduced school run, but snow continues to fall and is expected to worsen throughout the week.

Southeastern announced High Speed trains running from St Pancras to Maidstone West would be cancelled yesterday to cater for other areas of the line. It has since been announced the trains are running as normal this morning.
