Maidstone man arrested in violent crime crackdown

Kent Police arrested 103 people for violent crimes last weekend using predictive policing data.

Among the 103 arrests was a man wanted in connection with an incident in South Park Road, Maidstone on October 5, where a man was reported to have been struck with a piece of wood.

Leon McCarthy, 22, formerly of Cornwall Close Maidstone, was arrested on Friday, after he was located by officers whilst trying to buy a kebab in the town.

He was charged with assault and is due to appear at Maidstone Magistrates’ Court on November 22.

Officers were deployed in key locations where new technology indicated there was a likelihood of crimes taking place, as well as town centres.

Assistant Chief Constable Rob Price said: "Reducing all violent crime in Kent remains one of our key priorities and our officers will not hesitate to arrest anyone behaving aggressively, whether they are in a public place or in private.

"Last weekend we made 103 arrests, and the weekend before 104. Anyone committing a violent offence can expect to spend a night in the cells and a criminal record."

Kent Police urges people to drink responsibly and walk away from trouble.
