Maidstone Rugby Club will clinch promotion with five games to spare if they secure a bonus-point victory at Pulborough this weekend.

The runaway leaders will be guaranteed second place in London 3 South East and stand on the verge of clinching the title itself if they are successful on Saturday.

The club have won all 16 league games this season and are only two victories away from a place in the Senior Vase final at Twickenham.

Chairman Andy Golding (pictured) said: "These are exciting times for everyone.

"In terms of what could be achieved this season, this could be a massive moment in the history of the club.

"I first joined in the late 1980s as a player and have been an officer for the last decade.

"To compare teams from different eras is always difficult because so many things change in the game.

"But what I’ve witnessed this season is as good as anything I’ve seen for a long time. To my knowledge, the club have never gone through the season winning every game.

"It’s certainly one of my goals so there will still be work to do even if we do clinch promotion this weekend."
