The magic of Jose Mourinho is playing its part in Maidstone United’s promotion bid.

New signing Steve Watt was given his Chelsea debut by the ‘Special One’ in an FA Cup tie against Scunthorpe eight years ago.

Centre-half Watt, who has joined United on an initial one-month loan from Dover, will never forget his time working under one of the world’s greatest managers.

Mourinho shaped Watt as a player and the Scottish centre-half, 27, is determined to help United to success in Ryman League Division 1 South.

Watt, who lives in Maidstone with wife Caroline and their four-year-old son, said: "It was an absolute dream to work under Mourinho.

"You just wanted to play for him, it was as simple as that. He built such a togetherness in the squad that you’d want to die for each other."
