Man charged with arson following spate of fires in Maidstone

Detectives investigating a number of arsons which included a sofa and tent being set alight have charged a man.

Anthony Quinnell, 24, of no fixed address was arrested on Saturday.

He was later charged with arsons to a refuse bin and a sofa in Ashford Road on April 15, to a fire exit stairwell at a multi-storey carpark in Romney Place between April 15 and 16, and to a tent in Maidstone on April 15.

He appeared by video link before Medway Magistrates’ Court on yesterday where he was remanded to appear at Maidstone Magistrates’ Court on Thursday.

Investigators are asking anyone with information that may help their enquiries into the fires to call 01622 604100 quoting reference YY/12830/18.
