Rough sleeper found dead in Maidstone town centre

A rough sleeper has been found dead in a town centre.

Police cordoned off a large section of Jubilee Square in Maidstone and covered the doorway of the RBS branch although these have now been removed.

Officers, ambulance crews, and the fire brigade all attended.

Bystanders reported seeing a man lying dead outside the bank this morning.

Kent Police was called at around 8.45am to a report of a dead body before arriving at the scene where they confirmed a man had died.

Enquiries are being made to contact his next of kin.

The death is not being treated as suspicious and a report will be completed for the coroner.

Bouquets of flowers have since been left by the bank with one note reading: "Dance with the angels now."

Maidstone Borough Council is holding an emergency meeting about the death today, postponing its discussion about the decision of the High Court to throw out its claim again Kent County Council over releasing funds for the Leeds-Langley bypass.
