Maidstone: Joe Bisgin named as man found dead near Sainbury's at Romney Place

A man whose body was found near a town centre supermarket has been named locally as Joe Bisgin.

Police cordoned off the route which runs along the River Len underneath Wat Tyler Way in Maidstone following calls concerning a man's welfare on Friday.

Mr Bisgin, from Tovil and aged in his 30s, was sadly pronounced dead at the scene, near Sainsbury's at Romney Place, shortly after 2pm.

The death is not being treated as suspicious and Mr Bisgin's next of kin have been informed.

Officers were seen searching the banks of the river with flash lights and patrolling the area shortly after the discovery.

South East Coast Ambulance Service and Kent Fire and Rescue Service were also called.
