Armed police arrest man and find imitation firearm after alleged assault at M20 junction 8 services in Maidstone

A man sparked an armed response after he allegedly revealed a gun during an assault at a service station.

Kent Police were called after a member of the public said they had been attacked at the junction 8 services of the M20 in Maidstone shortly before 1am this morning.

The alleged victim claimed the suspect was in possession of a weapon.

Armed officers were sent to the area and eventually found the suspect at Cobham Services on the A2, London-bound.

The 38-year-old was arrested on suspicion of firearms offences after an imitation gun was found in his vehicle.

He remains in custody.
