Maidstone: Thieves target memorial to murder victim Razvan Sirbu

Yobs have desecrated a memorial to a murdered man, stealing items left by his family.

Flowers, lanterns and photos had been placed at the spot in the Loose Valley Conservation Area where the body of 21-year-old Razvan Sirbu was found.

Many of the items had been laid by members of Mr Sirbu’s family and an ornate lantern left by his mother was among those taken over the weekend.

The homeless Romanian was living in a tent at the Tovil beauty spot when he was allegedly beaten to death on May 7.

The incident sent shock waves through the community, with many residents placing flowers at the scene and a JustGiving page set up by a stranger so far raising more than £2,000 for his family.

The trashing of the memorial was not the only incident to cause outrage over the Bank Holiday break.

On Sunday between 8pm and 8.30pm a man in his 60s was assaulted by two men at Lower Crisbrook Pond, in the Crisbrook Meadow area of the Cave Hill site.

He had confronted the pair after spotting them fishing illegally.

Other people intervened after the men threatened to 'smash his face in'.

One suspect is described as white, aged between 17 and 18, 5ft 4ins, of slim build and with dark brown hair.

The second man is described as white, 20 to 25, 5ft 6ins and with a heavy build.

Kent Police confirmed it is investigating both incidents and anyone with information is asked to call 01622 604 100 or the anonymous Crimestoppers hotline on 0800 555 111.
