A crash involving two lorries has added to severe delays in Maidstone this morning.

One lane of the A249, heading into the town, is closed just before the M20 Junction 7 roundabout at Detling.

The accident follows a morning of traffic misery for commuters in the Maidstone area.

There were long rush-hour delays on the A249 with queues going back to the Stockbury Roundabout and slow moving traffic on the A20 westbound back to Junction 8 for Leeds, following a lorry fire on the A2.

The congestion was made worse by a two-car crash on the M2 between Chatham and Strood.
