In February, work will begin on £1.4 million worth of improvements, including a new adventure zone, offering a high ropes course, adventure golf course, a new play area and a refurbished skate park.

Kier Construction will be carrying out the works, which will take around seven months to complete.

During the works, the children's play area, skate park and overspill car park will be closed for a period of six to eight weeks.

The café and toilets will remain open and visitors along with the rest of the park.

No date has been set for the closure, but early estimates expect them to take place some time after the Easter holidays.

David Pickett, chairman of the Maidstone Borough Council's Heritage, Culture and Leisure Committee said: “We understand that visitors may be disappointed that some of the facilities are not available whilst this initial phase is completed; however, we hope that what we are trying to bring to the park for everyone far outweighs any disruption caused.

“We are very pleased that this project will soon be underway. Mote Park is widely regarded as one of the best parks in the borough and this investment will see its position as one of Kent’s top attractions secured.”

Following initial works, which are expected to be ready by the end of the summer, the park is also expected to welcome a new visitor centre and improved parking facilities.

Paul Abrahams, Kier operations director, said: “We are delighted to be working alongside the local council on such an important community project.

"This scheme will be a great asset to the area and we are looking forward to delivering this project to the highest standard, leaving a lasting legacy for families to enjoy.”
