Mote Park parched after weeks without rain

We may be set for a thunderstorm this afternoon, but parts of Kent are completely parched.

Weeks of hot and dry weather have left gardens and public spaces resembling deserts.

Although there is no sign yet of a hosepipe ban, and our reservoirs are pretty full, the toll of weeks without rain is visible.

This aerial shot of Mote Park in Maidstone shows the grass looking more like sand from above.

Only the trees offer a pop of green colour in the landscape.

But, as if on cue, the popular attraction could be getting a soaking later today.

A weather warning for thunderstorms has been issued for the region, running from 2pm to midnight.
