Teen charged with drug offence after day of action in Marden, near Maidstone

A teenager was charged after a joint operation to tackle drug use and anti-social behaviour in Marden.

The 18-year-old was arrested in the village on Tuesday, when Kent Police and Golding Homes launched a day of action.

The teen will appear before a court next month to face accusations of possessing cannabis.

Officers and neighbourhood advisors from the social housing firm, visited various homes throughout the afternoon, including addresses in The Cockpit, Sutton Court and Cranham Square.

Inspector Jody Gagan-Cook said: "Drug dealing or use can cause anti-social behaviour, and working with Golding Homes is really valuable as if there are residents who are persistently causing trouble we can work together to have the tenant evicted.

"This is the second time that we have run this operation and will do so in the future to ensure that those who are involved in drugs offences are dealt with appropriately, and that innocent residents see improvements in the area."

Jillie Smithies, director of operations for Golding Homes said: "This is just one of a number of joint operations we are undertaking with Kent Police in and around Maidstone to tackle anti-social behaviour.

"We will take necessary action if there are tenants who are causing a nuisance or there is evidence of criminal behaviour."
