A motorway police chase ended when a suspected stolen vehicle crashed into various patrol cars.

Police started the chase at around 10.42pm last night when officers became aware of the suspected stolen vehicle in the Maidstone area.

When the car didn't stop, police chased it onto the M20, when it crashed with a number of police cars before coming to a stop.

Three police cars were damaged, as well as the suspected stolen vehicle, after the crash between J7 for Maidstone, Sittingbourne and Sheerness and J8 for Lenham and the A20.

Three police officers suffered minor injuries in the crash, and the coast-bound M20 was closed while traffic was diverted.

The driver of the vehicle left the scene and police are still keen to trace them.

Two people were arrested at the scene, one of whom was taken to a local hospital with injuries.
