A year after the brutal murder of a father of four, his family are still hoping someone will be brought to justice.

At 3am on Friday, October 17, last year, Danny King (pictured) was shot at his home in Medina Road, Ditton. His wife and grandchildren were asleep in the next room.

His killers used a .38 revolver hand gun and did not use a silencer.

Police, who described the murder as “brutal and horrific”, are renewing their appeal for information.

DCI Jon Bumpus said: “I know there is someone out there who has information which could assist us in bringing Danny’s killer or killers to justice.

“Danny’s family continue to try to come to terms with their loss but they still need answers as to why he was taken from them in such a horrific way.”

Mr King and his wife Sylvia were married in 1975 in Sidcup and moved to Ditton several years ago.

Speaking exclusively to the Kent Messenger, on the eve of the one year anniversary of his death, Mrs King said: “He is missed very much. We cope with the support of each other, but the one year anniversary is going to be hard to deal with.

“We will probably do something quiet, as a family together.”

Since Mr King died, the couple’s large brood of grandchildren became 12, when Shepherd Danny King, now seven months, was born in March.

Mrs King added: “In an ideal world, we hoped someone would be arrested and charged but we know it is a complex investigation and we expect it to take a while.”

In January this year Kent Police released CCTV images on BBC’s Crimewatch in a bid to encourage potential witnesses to come forward.

It showed two people running out of Medina Road and getting into a car parked on New Road, close to the junction with Medina Road, in Ditton.

At the time of releasing the footage DCI Jon Bumpus stated he believed the two people were involved in the shooting. Police believe the car to be a Peugeot 207 Cabriolet Coupe. A similar vehicle was found burnt out in Croydon the following day.

CCTV footage of a man walking along the A20 London Road at Ditton was also shown. Officers believe he was walking past a takeaway in the area of Medina Road at around 2.30am – just before the time of the shooting. He is still to be identified.

Officers also reopened an investigation into a shooting at the King home in 2006, when a shot was fired through a window.

One person was arrested in connection with the incident but not charged.
