Police link dumped car to nearby Maidstone burglary

Police officers investigating a burglary are linking the break in to a car dumped in Barming.

Two men are reported to have been seen in the rear garden of a property in Pitt Road, Maidstone, between 5.30 and 6.30pm on Friday.

They were disturbed by a neighbour who was alerted to the incident and upon shouting at the suspects they then ran away by climbing over a back fence and into nearby fields.

Officers attended and the rear patio doors were found to have been damaged where the suspects are believed to have tried to gain entry.

One man is described as 5ft 10ins. He was believed to be wearing a blue jacket and grey trousers and had a scarf covering his face. The second suspect is described as wearing a baseball cap.

Officers are also linking a blue Vauxhall Astra found nearby in Trellyn Close, Maidstone, to this incident.

A witness, who wished to remain anonymous, saw four men acting suspiciously as they walked off from the quiet cul-de-sac.

They said: “I saw four lads who looked around 19 or 20. They crossed the road and walked up it.

"I saw all the police cars so I flagged them down and asked if they were looking for them.

"They took me in the back of their squad car to search for them and identify them but they must have run off.

"I spoke to one of my neighbours and she said she saw them grab their coats and run off. Apparently they kept looking back towards the car as they left."
