Unsafe minibus found with loose wheel nuts in Maidstone

A driver has been fined after a minibus being used to take children to schools was found to have a loose wheel.

Officers pulled over the 16-seat vehicle on Wednesday, March 21 while carrying out checks in a partnership operation with police, DVSA, and Kent County Council to make sure school vehicles are safe.

According to an officer who inspected the vehicle, which was on its way into a school, three wheel nuts on one of its front wheels were only "finger tight".

The driver apparently said that she hadn't been told to carry out a safety check on the minibus that was being used to carry nine children.

She was fined £100 and given three points. The DVSA will be visiting the company.

The agencies have also been in the Ashford area as part of the week-long operation, and will be visiting other locations across Kent tomorrow and Friday.

Thom Morris, Kent County Council (KCC) press officer, said: "KCC will deal with the operator through its normal contract compliance mechanism."
