Maidstone: Primary school boy offered sweets and lift home

Parents are being warned after an 11-year-old boy was offered sweets and a lift home by a mystery driver with a foreign accent.

The youngster had been riding his bike along Loose Road close to the fire station where he came to a stop to let a car out of a driveway.

While stationary a man “with a foreign accent” asked him if he would like some sweets and offered to drive him home.

The boy’s father, who did not wish to be named, said: “My son being a bit wise bolted home. He rang me straight away.

“You don’t expect that kind of thing to happen, especially on a busy main road.”

The man behind the wheel of the black car is described as being aged between 30 and 40 and was wearing sunglasses. He also had short black hair.

At least one school in the area has emailed parents about the incident and warning them to be vigilant.

A police officer is due to visit the boy and his father on Friday. The father also revealed his son was too afraid to cycle to school today following the incident at around 4pm yesterday.

He said: “He woke up this morning and for the first time ever he said he was too scared to go to school so I had to take him.”
