Maidstone's annual Proms in the Park, held at Whatman Park in Maidstone, brought crowds in their thousands for music and fireworks

Picnics, Union flags and plenty of promenading brought thousands to Maidstone's Whatman Park last night.

The annual open-air Proms in the Park event, organised by the Hazlitt Theatre on behalf of Maidstone council, stayed dry, despite some threatening clouds through the day.

The crowds got into the spirit, bringing picnics from 4.30pm onwards, with music kicking off later in the evening, from Maidstone Wind Symphony and The Maidstone Singers.

The free event also included a performance by the Hazlitt Youth Theatre to celebrate Alice in Wonderland's 150th birthday.

The evening was rounded off with a spectacular fireworks finale.
