Sittingbourne: Accident closes A249 between M2 and A2

Police are at the scene of a serious accident on the A249 this evening.

It is believed that a car was in collision with the rear of a parked lorry.

A section of the northbound carriageway of the road between the A2 and junction 5 of the M2 has been closed.

Traffic delays are building but a diversion onto Maidstone Road has been put in place.

Police spokesman Scarlet Jones said: "Kent Police are attending the scene of a serious collision on the A249 near to the Stockbury roundabout, Sittingbourne, following a call at 6.59pm.

"Officers, the South East Coast Ambulance Service and Kent Fire and Rescue Service are at the scene."
