Dog walking and football on M20 after bridge collapse between Maidstone and M26 junction

A video has emerged showing a woman walking her dogs across Kent's biggest motorway.

The M20 may have been closed following the collapse of a footbridge on Saturday afternoon, but traffic was still queuing on the carriageway and vehicles were moving as police turned them around to get them off the road.

Cars and lorries can been seen moving slowly in both directions on either side of the woman and the two dogs, seen in the bottom left of the picture.

At one point she jogs towards the central reservation as a lorry begins to turn around in front of her.

Just before the turning lorry blocks the lane, a car is seen heading directly towards the owner and her pets.

A picture was also taken on Saturday, showing people playing football on the opposite side of the carriageway, which is free from traffic.

The scenes are likely to remind motorists of a day in July when people emerged from their cars after the M20 was closed in both directions for more than two hours.

Some played football on the road while one woman hula hooped and others lounged in the sun in deck chairs.

The road had been closed as a man was threatening to jump from a bridge but officers managed to talk him down to safety.

At the time police warned people not to play on the motorway.

Back in July, a spokesman said: "Although there were road closures in place, we would always dissuade this type of activity.

"Various emergency vehicles will often be operating within road closures, which require prompt and unobstructed access to the scene.

"We would always encourage motorists to stay with their vehicles, for their own safety, as well as for the welfare of others."

This weekend a footbridge collapsed onto the M20 after it was hit by a lorry carrying a digger.

A motorcyclist was injured and a lorry driver treated for shock.
