Police release CCTV footage following violent robbery at Mediterranean store in Loose Road, Maidstone

Police have released CCTV images following a supermarket robbery that saw a shop keeper punched in the face and head.

The incident happened at the Mediterranean store, in Loose Road, Maidstone, at on Friday, May 15 but these images were released today.

The owner of the shop is understood to have opened the till to give a customer changed when the man jumped over the counter and hit him repeatedly before escaping with £200 in cash.

It happened at around 7.40pm and the suspect then ran away down Barton Road.

Det Con Ben Clatworthy, who is investigating the case, said: "This was a vicious attack on an unsuspecting shopkeeper who despite being beaten and bruised was fortunate to have not suffered more serious injuries.
