Passengers travelling from Barming, West Malling and Borough Green were also delayed. The line re-opened shortly after 10am.

Elsewhere, passengers on the high-speed line were left stranded after a separate signalling problem at St Pancras International.

Trains from Gravesend, Medway, Sittingbourne, Faversham, Ramsgate and Margate, can not run into or out of the London terminal.

Tickets are being accepted on the London Underground and local buses.
