One commenter said it felt as if "the world came crashing down" when she heard the terrible news.

"We lost a very special, kind hearted, bubbly, cheeky young man who made me smile every time I saw him," she wrote.

"His sense of humour was spot on and never failed to make me laugh to the point of crying.

"Shine bright, James. Please watch down on all off us including your family and close friends."

Another wrote: "Such a nice polite boy, can’t believe we won’t see you again. Such a tragedy, you will be greatly missed by so many. Sleep peacefully little man."

James' family set up the Facebook page adding: "As a family we would also like to say that there is always someone to talk to and you are never alone, there is always someone who will be able to give you the advice you might need or being able to point you in the right direction. And please do not be afraid to ask for help."

Mascalls Academy in Paddock Wood, where James was a Year 10 pupil, announced his death in a statement on its website.

Principal Wayne Barnett said: "The Mascalls Academy community is today coming to terms with the tragic loss of one of its Year 10 students at the weekend.

"During this difficult time, our thoughts are with his family and friends as they come to terms with their loss.

"We would kindly ask that you respect the privacy of our students so that they can also grieve privately.

"As a school, our priority will be providing support to students and staff affected, by providing access to trained counsellors who will help them to come to terms with this very sad news."
