Swan flies into lorry on Maidstone bridge

Police were called following an accident involving a lorry and a swan.

Two response cars went to Broadway, Maidstone, just before 11am after the bird flew into traffic.

The RSPCA also sent officers to the bridge heading over the River Medway towards Tonbridge Road and treated the animal, which appeared to be dazed and at one point fell down the stairs.

An officer at the scene said: "It's in a safe place. It's confined so it's not a threat to the public.

"We are waiting for the RSPCA to give it a once over. It appeared it tried to fly over the bridge and into the side of a lorry.

"We want to make sure it's all ok before putting it back in the river."

It's not the first time Kent Police have responded to ornithological issues.

In July Percy the peacock was detained after going on the run in Ringlestone.
