Maidstone: Early morning fires being treated as arson

Police are treating two fires in Maidstone this morning as arson.

Firefighters were called to the now-abandoned The Pilot pub in Upper Stone Street just after 5am this morning.

Around 40 minutes later, they were called to a second blaze in the electrical cupboard of an office block car park just a few feet away in Mote Road.

Kent Police said it is too early to confirm whether both are connected.

There were no injuries in either blaze.

An outbuilding behind The Pilot was destroyed in the first fire, but the flames did not seem to reach the empty pub.
