Maidstone gridlocked after two crashes

Two separate crashes caused traffic problems for commuters as emergency services respond to both.

An accident in Royal Engineer's Road, Maidstone, led to tailbacks beyond the roundabout heading towards the M20 with paramedics, fire crews and police currently at the scene.

Motorists travelling into Maidstone town centre also experienced long delays.

A separate incident involving a 4x4 is also caused problems on the New Cut Road near Bearsted.

The car crashed through metal railings close to the bus stop and traffic has been stopped in both directions.

Highways officials said traffic returned to normal at around 5.50pm.
