Travellers have moved from Cobtree Manor Park, in Forstal Road, Aylesford, to Penenden Heath, Maidstone

Travellers who spent last week on a popular family park have moved on — to another public grassland.

Seven caravans and nine cars are today occupying an area of Penenden Heath in Maidstone.

The group have taken up residence next to the children's play area after initially being located near a similar playground at Cobtree Manor Park, in Aylesford.

Maidstone Borough Council served a notice last week ordering them to leave the Forstal Road site by Thursday evening.

However, by the following morning the group had disobeyed the order.

An MBC spokesman confirmed this morning that the travellers had left the park, but had moved just two miles up the road to Penenden Heath.

She said: "We are once again assessing the situation and will look to find the best way forward."
