Mote Park: Travellers move on to Maidstone's Mote Park

Travellers have set up camp at a popular park used by dog walkers and families.

Four caravans pitched up in Mote Park yesterday evening, but they were joined by others this morning.

Maidstone council said it was hoping to get them moved on before the start of the Bank Holiday weekend.

The council is in discussions with Kent Police about the serving of a Section 61 notice, which will require the travellers to quit the site within 24 hours.

A spokesman said they were also investigating whether there had been any criminal damage caused to gain access to the park.
