A fallen tree at Beltring is causing lengthy delays between Paddock Wood and Maidstone

A fallen tree is causing delays on a train line at the height of rush hour after it was hit by a freight train.

Delays of up to 30 minutes are expected on services between Paddock Wood and Maidstone West until at least 9am following the incident near Beltring.

Minor damage was caused to the train which was travelling between Acton and Allington and hit the tree at 5.40am this morning.

The driver of the vehicle removed the object before continuing the journey, however the incident has had a knock on affect for later services. No one was injured.

In a second incident at around 6.30am a tree fell near West Malling causing delays of up to 15 minutes between Maidstone East and Swanley.

Disruption is likely until 09:30am.
