Two men are still in hospital with serious injuries following a crash in Sittingbourne Road, Maidstone, on Sunday morning, September 23.

A 22-year-old passenger sustained serious head injuries and was flown by air ambulance to King’s College Hospital in London, where he was said to be in serious but stable condition.

The 21-year-old driver also remains in a serious condition with broken legs and ribs in Medway Maritime Hospital.

The men were injured when the blue Rover 45 they were travelling in veered off the A249 Sittingbourne Road and crashed into a garden wall at the junction of Hatherall Road, at about 7.20am.

Kent Police said no other vehicles were involved and are now appealing for witnesses to the crash.

PC Rob Malins of the Kent Police Serious Collision Investigation Unit said: "The Rover was travelling along the A249 Sittingbourne Road towards Maidstone town centre when, just before the junction with Hatherall Road, it lost control, crossed over the road and collided with a wall outside a house at the end of Hatherall Road."

He appealed for witnesses to come forward: "We would like to hear from anyone who saw the collision or events leading up to it. Please call the Kent Police Serious Collision Investigation Unit appeal line on 01622 798538."

Sittingbourne Road was closed until lunchtime while the collision was investigated and the vehicle was recovered.
