Maidstone: Two overturned cars shut two lanes of M20

All lanes of the M20 are now open after two cars overturned.

The crash happened at around 2pm on the M20 link road London-bound between junction 5 for London Road and Coldharbour Lane and junction 4 for the A228 at Leybourne.

Lanes one and two were shut and police were called to the scene, but they have since reopened.

A spokesman for Kent Police said: "We were called at 2.04pm today following a collision on the London bound carriageway of the M20.

"The incident occurred between junctions five and four and involved two vehicles. Police, ambulance and fire crews attended the scene and there have been no serious injuries reported. Recovery of the vehicles is underway and lane closures remain in place."

A second accident involving two cars and a truck shut the coast-bound carriageway of the M20 in the same spot for a time.

The second incident happened at around 3pm and glass and debris was strewn across all three lanes.

All lanes are now open on this carriageway.

The accidents come less than seven hours after the M2 was brought to a standstill following three separate crashes.
