Maidstone: Timelapse video shows renovation works at The Mall Chequers shopping centre

It took five months to complete, but thanks to a timelapse video you can see how The Mall's £6m makeover shaped up in just three minutes.

The refurbishment of shopping centre, which opened at the Stoneborough Centre in November 1976, started in May of this year and has now been completed, to coincide with its 40th birthday.

To celebrate the revamp, which was mainly carried out overnight, a time lapse video has been launched to show the differences.

They include intelligent strip lighting which adjusts to the weather, white porcelain flooring, heightened shop fronts and exposed the ceiling beams to improve the ambiance of the centre.

Other works included new glass entrances at both King Street and Gabriel’s Hill with removal of both canopies with the ceiling lifted at Gabriel’s Hill, extended entrance and a window added into the Golden Boot.

This year has also seen the return of discount store TJ Hughes as well as welcoming Flutterbyes, The Works and Cake Box.

Centre manager AndyDavysaid: “This video really captures how much The Mall Maidstone has changed after the refurbishment works.

"It has completely changed the feel of the centre, it is a cleaner, brighter space to spend time in; the toilets, baby change facilities and lifts are contemporary and welcoming for shoppers and we are really pleased to have TJ Hughes back in the centre with the addition of new shops to attract shoppers.”
