They were mid-way through the final talk of school speech day when alarm bells started ringing.
Not that former Maidstone Grammar School for Girls pupil Holly Sutton had said anything controversial. It was the fire alarm.
Staff, guest speakers and students had to file outside as the school in Buckland Road, Maidstone was evacuated on Friday afternoon, January 11.
Luckily it was a false alarm.
