Washing machine catches fire in Maidstone

A washing machine went up in flames at a home in Maidstone this morning.

Firefighters were called to Havant Walk at 7am where they discovered the appliance alight.

Crews put out the blaze and dragged the washing machine outside before removing the charred remains of what was inside it.

A Kent Fire and Rescue Service spokesman said: "The fire is thought to have originated in the control panel of the washing machine.

"Crews isolated the power and extinguished the fire with water. They took the appliance outside and removed the burnt contents."

No one was injured and crews spent just 30 minutes tackling the fire.
