Video gives public virtual tour of Maidstone's regenerated town centre

Members of the public are being asked for their views on the proposed £3m regeneration of Maidstone town centre.

The council is hoping to give the bottom of Week Street, Maidstone East Station, Gabriel’s Hill and the junction of Lower Stone Street and Palace Avenue, by Gala Bingo, a long-overdue facelift.

The ‘public realm project’ will see a level surface introduced throughout to give the route a more pedestrian feel, while a timeline charting key points in the town’s history will run the length of the street.

Squares will be built to link the road with side streets, with Iguanodon Square planned for the St Faith’s Street turn off to create a link to Maidstone Museum and remind visitors that an iguanodon skeleton was found in the borough.

MBC will speak with traders about specific parts of the plans, while there will be a stand in the town on Thursday, June 15, and Saturday, June 17, to give members of the public an opportunity to see the designs.

As part of the project the council has created the below video taking the public on a virtual tour of the new-look centre.

Any feedback on the designs can be sent to phase3@maidstone.gov.uk and the consultation runs for six weeks.

Once feedback is received detailed designs will be produced with construction due to start early next year.
