Young woman treated for burns after fire in Toni and Guy hair salon in Maidstone town centre

A Maidstone town centre hairdresser's was evacuated this afternoon after a fire broke out, leaving a woman with burns.

Two fire crews were called to Toni and Guy salon, in Earl Street, at just after 2pm when a blaze broke out on the first floor.

Customers waited outside the salon in their robes as the fire crews entered.

The fire was out when they arrived, but a 20-year-old woman was treated by ambulance crews with burns on her leg and hand.

It is not yet known how the fire started.

Kent Fire and Rescue Service crews remained at the scene this afternoon.
